It would be not good image for CHN if they won’t cooperate with efforts to end the RUS-UKR war, or any war for that matter. And the opp for them to pay less or nothing like not needing to pay U.S. trade tariffs, is the ultimate drive for them to cooperate no matter what reason that they should. Like frenemies, imo, as long as a move is not to make America or any other nation so much richer and powerful than theirs, and a move that would up their World image, they’d most likely cooperate.
